I agree with the guys above. The bears I have encountered have been very shy and eluisive animals. They are rare, like the bad person however, when things go bad, they go bad fast, and you had better be prepared.
I have a Wilson custom .45 Auto (similar to the Kimber), and I must say, that I feel my light weight .45 Colt revolver is more dependable. Yes it has 1/2 the rounds, but most encounters are 1-3 shots anyway.
Noise, quickness, and knock down energy are your strengths when chosing a self defense weapon.
Everyone will have their favorite--just be sure you are comfortable and proficient with it.
