You will have no problems with a 3-inch lift. I have an OME setup with 886 heavy springs in front and 895 mediums in the rear with the ARB shocks. My ride actually improved. The FJ has a smoother ride and handling is much more positive.
Yep, you've heard whining and complaints on OME lifts, but they when investigated the cause is improper installations or use of the wrong springs for load, etc.
I would not, I repeat NOT do a spacer lift. IMHO, they are unstable.
