Re: V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you, the same sources that say the Supra is canceled are the same ones that have been saying "Toyota to release new supra in Oct!" for the last FIVE YEARS. It's amazing that a blog puts out a guess as to what someone will do, 6 other blogs copy the same information, and it's suddenly "news"

Did some digging to see if I could find any REAL news about it, and EVERY article that says it's canceled points back to Automotive News's speculation. Are there news stories about the factory being retooled to build anything else? Nope (tho production is down until december Toyota Motor to cut domestic SUV output as global sales sag - report - Forbes.com )

Time will tell, but by now, a new model is probably already mostly designed, or they killed it awhile ago and haven't told us. But, here's a few quotes from Toyots about the FJ and SUVs in general:

"FJ Cruiser is “a Corvette for Toyota,” one executive says. It “demonstrates the company still has a heart and soul.”"
-------------
A consultant for Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday that the automaker won't retool its plans to build Highlander sport utility vehicles at a plant under construction in north Mississippi, despite the trend of people seeking more fuel-efficient cars.

"The auto industry is a cyclical industry," Cuneo said. "Toyota believes in the long run this is going to be a good place to manufacture and build vehicles."

---------------
So, would you cancel a great selling halo vehicle just because there is a slump that's hitting EVERY model?
