I love my FJ Cruiser. '07 4X4 with a 6" lift, 33" KM2s, HID off and on road lighting, all sort of great little mods.
I love my FJ so much that I could not dare subject it to the salt and sand of a gulf coast beach, not just because it's wicked to clean up but because you can never really stop corrosion.
Enter my new toy. I bought this thing after hours and hour of research. I got it sight unseen from Ohio, it was in semi-restored condition. It made it 21 hours and 1200 miles from Sandusky, OH to Houston, TX.
I had it registered with Texas plates the day I got back, no hassles.
This is a 1971 Kaiser Jeep M35A2 Deuce and a Half 6x6 Cargo Truck. 7.6~ liter "C" turbocharged inline-6 multifuel diesel. Gets about 10mpg max speed of 70mph, runs anything from used motor oil to jet fuel.
It has a 8x12 Cargo box, carrying 10,000lbs on highway or 5,000lbs offroad on 46" super-single tires. No power-steering, no a/c, manual 5-speed transmission, 2 speed transfer case, air disengaged front axle. Everything works, there is limited rust and limited leaks for a 38 year old truck.
First mods were a couple of cup holders from wal-mart, 24v license plate lights, an improvised turn single module to replace the nonfunctional military one, a 900w power inverter, and a boombox strapped to the old fire extinguisher mount (cant hear it over the turbo on the highway, haha).
Next mods will be air-o-matic steering assist and the dual master cylinder braking system from an M35A3 for safety.
