If you are behind another vehicle on a really dusty trail, you will apprecaite a snorkle. It gets your air intake up and out of the dust thrown off by vehicles in front of you so your air filter will not become so clogged with dirt. If they were not needed, I am sure they wouldn't use them on the Camel Trophy vehicles.
