Snorkels are quite functional, if you notice on trails or viewing videos there is a intense dust and dirt cloud from under the front wheels. That is where your air intake is located. Makes sense to move the intake higher out of the immediate cloud of dust. I agree that cutting a hole in your fender is a real commitment to the extreme modifications. If you are not gonna run it in a mud pit, dusty trail or rock crawlin then the snorkel is useless. If you are gonna run it off road then it is a worthwhile modification.
