The easiest way to remove them is to remove the bumpers. It doesn't take much and I don't think you can get to the wings with the bumpers on. I painted mine about a month ago and they are holding up quite well. It's all in the prep work.
I got my fronts off without removing the front bumper...took about 20 minutes total. the clip is a weird little thing, push in the center, slide it down. I used a little screw driver to depres the center whle fiddling with my other finger. One hand for each side (left on the right side, right hand on the left side).
ive taken the front bumper off and ive taped it off on my second round [hardcore wheeling took its toll] but its much easier to tape and you dont have a chance to break anything taking the bumper off as i did ...
Great idea!! I've been searching and searching, trying to figure out how to take these things off. Got a few clips out of one but couldn't get to all of them. The first one came off super easy at the Anaheim airport on a pole. So I'm actually going to use this suggestion. Will let you know how it works, lol.
No problem doing it with the bumper still on, just lie on your back and look up...you'll see 6 white plastic clips. You'll need to depress a center tab to slide them out (An awl or sharpened screwdriver works excellent for this, as you can push in the tab and slide the clip at the same time), and once you have the 6 out, just give it a good pull.
They were easy to remove but not worth the trouble. I posted this in the other thread mentioned earlier:
"I attempted this mod tonight but scrapped it. I ordered the same plastic you used and found it way to thin and I couldn't get it to stop curling up. It also has to be so far pushed out to cover the holes that it was impossible for it to not look wavy. I think I'm going to have to make something out of mdf, cover it with the vinyl, and then paint the whole bumper. This way I can screw it on and it will be nice and solid.
Also, the vinyl was 30 bucks after shipping so I'm thinking that for another 20 it might be worth buying a kit."
You could contact Ordoman. He makes a fitted replacement part out of diamond plate that you can paint. It covers all the clip holes that are left after you remove the wings. Cleans it up nicely.
