Hey I was going to buy some of the pins I saw in the gift store, specifically the ones for Engineer Pass and Cinnamon Pass but totally forgot! Does anyone live in Ouray that would be willing to grab me some and ship them to me (I will pay for all that of course) or does someone know where to find them online???

Not sure about the pins, but if you want these....
Hey I just realized that everyone of us that drove the Alpine Loop, also drove Mineral Creek when turning off US 550 to get to the start point of Engineer Pass. Look at the map page showing the Alpine Loop. The portion labeled CR-18 to CR-17 is Mineral Creek, which is rated difficult according to the Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails by Charles A. Wells. The Alpine Loop (rated 2-4, easy to moderate) is generally just considered Engineer Pass and Cinnamon Pass, with starting points in Lake City or Silverton. The map page we all received doesn't show the trail highlighted in blue between Animas Forks and the start of Engineer Pass, but this is the part that closes the loop of the true Alpine Loop.

And that's the only part I drove. My 11 yr old was calling it the "Alpine loop of death" because of how long it takes to run it.
I ran up to Engineer Pass, then to Lake City, over Cinnamon Pass and then to Animas Forks and back over toward the start of the Engineer Pass trail. It was getting near to raffle time Saturday night and we had to get back.
Rover, that cool "Alpine Loop of Death." Your son has come up with an appropriate name for the way the FJ Summit organizers sent us.
The organizers sent us out on our own, with a volunteer leader for this trail (maybe Jeff, Tim, Jason or Seth didn't realize the combination of trails either). I didn't originally volunteer, but the one who signed up as the volunteer had is family in his FJ. He asked at the trail head (Mineral Creek) if someone else would lead. No one immediately answered the call, so I volunteered. There were 7 FJ's in our group on Friday. We had a super time and the everyone was fun to be with.

I was thinking the first section was on the rough side.... leading for me meant I got to bottom out on a couple of those turns, then warn others to take a different line. Time to invest in that lift I guess!

I did the same. I showed up at 8:55 for the 9:00 run and they had left already. ...so as I joined the 9:30 group they asked me to lead. It was a blast. The stock FJ's we had in our group did well, and we finished the Alpine Loop in under 7 hours.
