, for one main reason: it comes with all the parts you need in the box to work as both a handheld and an in-car radio. It also comes with two battery packs, one designed for rechargeable batteries and one regular. You have to provide the rechargeable AA batteries, but that's it (it comes with an AC charger).
Like most of you, at first I wasn't sure about having a CB for offroading. So I bought this unit and ran it as a handheld for my first organized trail run. After how useful it was on that trip, the very next Monday I ran out and bought all the other parts needed to permanently install a mount, antenna and wiring on my truck.
My CB install and parts suggestions are in my sig, but if you're on the fence, then this is a great radio to start off with as a handheld, that can then be converted to an in-car unit if you want to do a full install.

Glad to hear you like it. I burned through the gift cards my mother in law always give me at Christmas to pick up that same radio last weekend. I am awaiting its arrival next week. Never owned a CB before but making the trek to Ouray this year and I did not want to be deaf while on the trails with others. I just went yesterday and picked up the steel to build my version of the Bandi mount.
If I get the scheduled maintenance done today I will begin cutting and welding to get it built and hopefully decide where I want the handset mounted for the trip.

I have the BozTec HAM Antenna Mount which is heavy duty but would love to see pics of yours once you get it done.
Also, see you at the Summit

I had no CB at the first Summit and I regretted it. You will miss out on so much fun banter as well as trail and historical information that the trail leader may tell you. Also, as you pull into towns such as Lake City or Telluride your trail leader may announce good places to eat or where you will meet back after lunch. I think having a CB should be mandatory.
Also, please try to have your CB working and tuned before arriving at the Summit OR if it isn't working or tuned before hand please try to find someone to help you with it before you arrive for your first trail run. Trail leaders don't have time to mess with getting radios working the morning of the run and you don't want to be the reason your group leaves late.

I actually bought the steel to make a Bostec or a Bandi as I was unsure how hard ist was going to be to bend the plate to get the Bandi shape.
I agree about the requirement for comms on a trail ride.

X2!!!
Put this on the top of your list folks. Nothing more frustrating as a trail leader to have to stop and walk back to the person without a radio to pass along info. DON'T BE THAT GUY!

Re: CB Radio advice for Summit
Also, you guys that have local clubs/meet-ups/trail runs in places far and wide, it might be a good idea to have a CB tuning party (or two or three) in the months between now and the Summit to try to work out any kinks that may be in the mix.
Even for those of us that have had a good, working CB for a while, there's always a chance that one or more of ours have gone bad for one reason or another.
Example - there was some confusion on one of my runs at Summit last year, and even though I have tested it a couple times since then and found it to be working fine, I will join in on one of these events around here and have the guys check it out, just to make sure.
Bottom line is....Get a CB! Its well worth having for more than just the Summit!
^^^^^
Yep!!! Get one!!! The guy behind me didn't have one on one of the trail runs we did last year. I felt obligated to relay everything on the C.B. to him. You can imagine what a good time I had on that run!!!
If you are going to do any cruising, offroading, rock crawling, or any thing else in your rig, get a good tuned C.B. radio!!!!! You will be glad you did!! (and so will everyone else)
and that's all I have to say on that subject.................................
