My experience has been that the AP rear springs ARE noticeably stiffer. I have the adjustable Walker Evans rear shocks and even on the softest setting the rear ride is stiffer than stock. I drive over the same set of speedbumps at work every day and the first day after I put the new springs in it was pretty noticeable. Rides nice on the highway and should handle a load better though.
