Re: Nice writeup by Edmunds
One error I noticed in the Edmunds write-up: Four-wheel-drive models don't come standard with traction control ....
They don't come standard with (A-TRAC) Active Traction Control, but (TRAC) Traction Control is standard on all Toyota SUVs as part of the STAR safety system, which also includes (EBD) Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, (ABS) Anti-lock Braking System, (BA)Brake Assist and (VSC) Vehicle Stability Control.
Some of the later introduced high-end models (like the Highlander Hybrid and Camry Hybrid) also have a central processor that handles the computing to control all of these systems with one "brain" called (VDIM) Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management. It responds much quicker when the operator is in danger of losing control and utilizes a core mounted "g" sensor to measure what the vehicle is actually doing dynamically, then correcting as needed.
