Didn't know how cool these really are until Jason Demello installed one of the very first sets on my FJ yesterday.
Jounce shocks provide a much more controlled ride the more wild you get. Since they supplement the 4 regular shocks "on demand", the "normal" ride is smooth. So you get 4-shock ride quality, but 8-shock stability
when needed.
In my two days of driving, the car doesn't want to bounce back up nearly as much. When the suspension is compressed after hitting a bump, the car stays down on the ground and doesn't want to rebound back up again. It's much much better, the faster you go. It feels like a shark cruising along the ocean bottom.
The jounce shock does it's "magic" only in the last 2-3 inches of suspension travel. First of all it controls initial shock load much better then the chunk of rubber that was in there before. It does not bounce back like the rubber. And second, it keeps the spring from compressing as much, thus keeping IT from bouncing back that amount as well.
On the way back from Demello Offroad I stopped by Donahoe and got the usual great customer service...Kreg Donahoe and designer Dylan Evans took my car out, and we tried to no avail to find a place to wheel around their new headquarters.
Kreg put on the tiewraps you see above as he wants to see how much travel I am using. They're adjustable so I need the reference in deciding where to set them. As you can see in the last couple days of normal street driving I've been hitting them decently.
They are not on Donahoe's site yet but they are based on the
Light Racing units, but revalved etc for Donahoe.
