Question Burning Smell

I recently noticed a burning smell emanating from underneath my FJ. This occurred after trying to get the truck over a pile of plowed snow at the bottom of the driveway. Since the truck started from a dead stop I had to rev the engine and feather the clutch so the engine wouldn't stall . The smell didn't linger for long and after I drove awhile it was gone. This isn't my first clutch and I never had one smell before. Could I be mistaken and it's something else (transfer case)?
