Re: Pics of All Pro Front Bumper Powder Coated on Voodoo Blue

The powder coat is pretty tough. I have chipped it in 1 place. I touched it up with a dab of flat black paint and you can not see the defect even with close inspection.
In the past some cars (GM at least), had a crumple switch located in the bumper mounting bracket. If you ran into something, the bracket crumpled/compressed which forced the switch contacts together and set off the bags. If you altered the bumper, the bags may not work. The contacts would also corrode and render the car "airbag free"
The FJ has a sealed module mounted on the frame. The switch will close with rapid deceleration (impact). I do not know how many G's are required to activate it, but bumping into something at low speed won't fire it. It is totally independant of the bumper and its mounting. I have only seen 1 company claim that their bumper is airbag compatable-that is ARB. All are, but may not want to publish that as a general rule to decrease liability. Interestingly, the FJ uses other motion sensing modules. There is a yaw module in the console neat the shifter that is part of the traction control system. The high tech electronics are pretty impressive (at least to me) in this vehicle. It certainly contributes to its excellent safety performance.
I had a local powder coater do my bumper. She charged $150 which I gather is about the price most pay. Just find someone that does it a lot, and you should get a quality job
I also like the black on the VD blue and will probably paint my bezel, mirrors, and door handles black too.
BTY, I am extremely happy with my bumper-great guys at All Pro and great approach angle!
