Just had my oil changed in the fj today (4,700 mi.) Told the tech to put the synthetic in - he said "next time". Manual suggests after the 10K mark. What do you guys (and gals) think? This oil change was a "freebie", so the rest of them I will do with Royal Purple!
I just did a search of the Owners manual and the repair manual pdf and there is no mention of synthetic oil what-so-ever. I don't think Toyota has a recomendation for use or when you start using or continued usage of synthetic one way or another as long as it meets ILSAC standards and you change it every 5000 miles. I think the tech is BS'n you. Personally I have been using only Mobil 1 for years and it has been the factory fill on several of my cars.
