Re: What's the designation for the new FJ?
the designations for the land cruisers come from the engine code + Chassis code. the letter portion denotes the engine its equipped with, the number code denotes the chassis.
for example, all the "F" cruisers are called that because they have "F" series engines. "B" cruisers are equipped with the "B" series diesel, and so on. the current US Cruiser is actually a UZJ-100, for the 2UZ-FE engine. the source of the "J" is often disputed, the most popular theories are that it denotes japanese manufacture and that it denotes "Jeep" as the original cruiser (bj25) was built to bid for a locally-produced 4x4 contract for the occupation forces back after WWII.
I looking at the codes that would apply for the FJ Cruiser, you would come up with GRJ-120. "GR" from the engine, designated 1GR-FE and "120" from the prado chassis the FJC is based on. you lucky owners can also look on vehicle ID plate thats likely on the firewall or doorjamb, the internal code can be found there.
