I'm not sure where you are looking.

We put the top of the bumper as low as possible to make room for a bigger tire and the tire carrier.

There is a gap in-between the sides and the plastic but I don't think you can see it in the pics. and this is because it's a prototype.

I looked at the pictures again I think you mean under the door. and yes this is for a larger tire. You can't go any higher on the bottom of the bumper because the frame is right there. We could have made the top taller but it would just add more weight. Plus we want to make room for the tail gate.

It's funny you mention that. I was actully thinking it was too close to the back door..lol
