I'm no audiophile so go easy on me. I was growing tired of the bass just droning on from the factory subwoofer so I stuffed a sock in it. Literally. I put a sock in each port and I think it sounds better. The bass just seemed to hang out there. I just like a tighter response, I guess. Anyone do something similar that may be able to back me up on this? I don't plan on leaving the socks in there, but I wanted to try it out before I start modifying stuff.
So this is when someone tells me that the ports aren't actually functional...thereby relegating my 'fix' to a placebo. If the hood scoop isn't functional then why not the ports too? Lol...this could be ugly for me.

The ports are functional, any time you build a ported box you gain any where from 5 to 10db, just to give you an idea if you get a seal box and you wanted to make 2x louder you need to double in power, the box is twice as big , but in return you get more boom and you don't need to much power to run the woofer or woofers. The only problem i see with blocking the ports is that there is just not enougth power to run the woofer. I hope this helps. If you have the time go to a stereo shop and listen to a seal box, make sure they know what kind of music you lisen to and how you like to lisen to it. I have six tens on my FJ and i love it.
