FJ's offroad cherry broken
I'd been in a bit of beach sand and a short, tame offroad trail in the 12 days since I got the FJ. But today was the first time I shifted it in to low and used the LD.
Paul the Photographer was kind enough to show me a small OHV spot he uses, since I was going to be over in his neck of the woods picking up a snatch strap. If I hadn't seen his stock FJ do it first, I would NEVER have thought mine could on do the same on stock highway tires. But with Paul's experience and direction we were climbing near 60 degree berms, and me with just the DL at this point (A-TRAC switch shipped today). There were a couple he needed the A-Trac to make it up, and I passed on those. My stock step bars grabbed the sand a few times, but nothing serious.
It was an eye opening experience and Paul was a great instructor. To be able to do that followed by very comfortable interstate travel at 75-80mph is an amazing capability for the price, right out of the box. Coming from a history largely of sports cars where you even had to worry about steep entrance ramps, I'm loving it!
I didn't get any pictures today, but I'll be sure to get some tomorrow at the big FJ meet at Croom in Citrus.
