I dunno man, I don't see Toyota just all of the sudden screwing up their paint jobs. They know what they are doing, maybe there are just more rocks on the roads these days, it was a bad winter...
And for windshields... go hit up a jeep or hummer forum. If you want a vehicle with a windshield at that angle you are going to be chipping glass.
The FJ's are Japan made. Unless Toyota has some new "Kia" like game plan where as they cheap out on whatever is possible (glass and paint in this case) it's not their fault. Rocks hit your paint and it chipped. It's not like it is peeling off.
You want Toyota to cover rocks hitting your paint is what it comes down to. You should be trying to get rocks off your roads or something more productive. You can get the best D@mn paint in the world. Now drive @ 60 plus MPH and put a rock in front of it. Paint chip!!!
If the physics off rocks hitting your vehicle really bothers you, you will never be happy. $h!t happens. Deal with it. Be happy, and enjoy your FJ. If you can't enjoy it because the paint gets hit by pebbles, stones, rocks, really hard bugs, whatever, then I respect your decision to boycot Toyota due to bad paint.
There should be a dealer option for 20 extra coats of clearcoat...

Just because Toyota is number 1 does not mean that all their products are flawless. I've heard Tundra owners having the same problems. Currently, I have paint chips on every side of the vehicle except the rear door. And some of them are high up on the body panels. This has never happened with any vehicle I've ever owned.
If this was a problem with the past winters conditions then it would stand to reason that my Audi would have the same problems. It's not a problem with my Audi, and I have purposely driven that car during the worst pebble conditions.
My current attitude is that Toyota rushed production and did not paint the FJs adequately. When I do get my next paint job, I'll be certain that they put many coats of paint and enough clear coat to handle every day use regardless of the conditions.
I've never had this problem with any of the German cars I've owned, and put over 100,000 miles on my Nissan Pathfinder in similar conditions without any paint chipping. I agree that there should be a dealer option for additional clear coats or additonal warranties you can buy to cover such damages.
Don't get me wrong, I love my FJ but am disappointed by the factory finishes. I'm not going to cause a stink over this one, but again, my business will be lost if they do not take care of the situation.
