Here's where I fitted a 12 volt accessory socket in the driver's glovebox. There are other posts on here separately detailing how to remove the glovebox and how to add a 12v socket. Combine the two and you have this.
As far as I could tell, this was the only place to add the socket without fouling the hinges or screws: Inside right glovebox wall, nearest to the steering wheel.
1. Removed Driver Glovebox (see here):
Drivers glovebox removal??
2. Removed FJammer for access (see here):
iPod connected directly to FJ Jammer - Installation Instructions
3. Drilled a hole in the right hand side wall of the drivers glovebox - I used a 30mm hole saw for my socket but yours may require a different size.
DON'T DRILL TOO CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE GLOVEBOX/DASH as the socket probably has a 'collar' which fitted from the rear side to hold it in place - this will be larger than the hole and won't fit if you're too close to the top lip.
4. I replaced the glovebox and 'trial' pushed the socket thru the hole (has to be done in that order, or the box won't go back into place). The socket hit some plastic infrastructure on the underside of the dash - I used a dremmel to remove this plastic, really carefully. removed a bit, then refit, remove refit etc. until there's enough clearance.
5. Replaced glovebox and passed wires up thru the access hole created by removing the FJammer, stuck them thru the new hole in the glovebox and spade connected them onto the back of the socket.
6. Fitted socket into hole and slide collar along the wires and onto the back of the socket - that's the socket bit done.
7. Threaded the wires along to the interior fusebox (at knee level by drivers door) and tapped a live feed from there via an inline fuseholder.
The worst bit of the job was 'dremmelling' the underside of the dash but this was probably because I wasn't sure that this was all gonna work.
Sorry if this has been posted by someone already and thanks to the guys that posted the linked threads above - I probably wouldn't have attempted this without those threads. I'm no qualified auto 'anything' so attempt at your own risk, but hopefully the pics will be of use.
Will post more pics - sorry if some are a little puzzling!!!
