I am happy to see another NC FJ that actually wants to get off the pavement.
Mtbcoach is in your area and is great resource for all things off-road. we went to Uwharrie NF a few weeks ago and had a blast. It sounds like you are looking for something more open. George Washington NF in Virgina is a lot of fun and I would go there more often if it were closer. The OBX is another place that would be great for a vacation and you can drive your FJ in the sand which is always fun.
