Re: There IS a Difference....

Dave, this is a great idea. I installed a 2" front spacer on OEM 4x2 coils. Front end is as high as a 4x4. This is all good, however, I was surprised that I was not as high as the 4x4s with the same lift. We all know why now. I even did a side by side comparison. I got OEM 4x4 coil overs from a member for free a while back, I might swap them out or save them until I get a Rough Country lift.

Its handles good a little more body roll but not bad at all. I didn't take any measurements but it looks like at least the claimed two inches. I had to re-adjust the seat when I got in to drive home, I was definitely leaning back more. I'm also lighting up more rear view mirrors than just sports cars now, but no lights flashed so far, I can't wait to get it out in the dirt again

the install is a lot easier on a 4x2

IMO:
-remove wheels
-unbolt sway bar from up right, and rotate up and forward(both sides at once).
-remove all four nuts from the shock top three and bottom one.
-step on your lug nuts to separate shock from A-arm and to get the bolt out, then drop it down and back past the brake line.
-reverse to re-install

Re: There IS a Difference....

I just picked up a set of OEM 4X4 springs and plan on putting some TRD shocks on with these springs. I noticed that they are color coded and obvoiusly there is a difference between left and right but can you tell me which is the left driver's side and which is the right? Thanks.

driver side should be yellow and green paint on the coil and passenger side should be green and grey. make sure this is what you have or its wrong. the driver side is supposed to be firmer. just trying to help you all out so you dont make the mistake I did.
are you doing TRD shock front and rear?
Definitely start a new thread after you have driven around a little bit and let every one know what you think of them, I'm very interested in doing the same.

Re: There IS a Difference....

Yes, I plan to do TRD front and rear. I am still researching the Blue and Yellow Bilstein vs. the Blue and Red TRD (which I know is made by Bilstein). The TRDs are a bit more expensive and I suppose I'm just paying for the name but so far have gone with TRD on most of my mods and am happy with their stuff. I got this idea from J-Rock! and pm'd him. He is happy with the set up and I think it will work well for me as well. Unfortunately, I am retarded with tools and will need to have the installation done but haven't found anyone locally with a reasonable installation estimate. So far, folks are wanting around $600 including alignment which seems a bit steep to me. Thanks for the info and I'll definitely post up when I've completed the mod.

Re: There IS a Difference....

I was just looking at those 4X4 springs and the fronts are clearly yellow and grey but the rears seem to both be a purple color...so there isn't any difference in the rears...just the fronts? Thanks,
-Bob
