Rear Locker..........

I posted this in General Discussion by accident too..I have read some past Threads about this and I still need to ask. My FJ has the Limited Slip Differential switch, but no swith for a Rear Locker or ATRAC. I haven't checked under the truck to look for the Rear Locker Mechanism yet, because I'm at work but I am very anxious to know. Can you have a LSD switch and still have no Rear Locker or ATRAC installed ? I thought is should come with all options once the LSD was already installed. Anyone else have the same thing ?

Thanks

Re: Rear Locker..........

Yes, you can have the switch and no locker, actualy you have no locker. ATRAC is a 4X4 funtion. The rear locker is a seperate switch. Mine came with no locker, I added the ARB AirLocker with compressor.

Re: Rear Locker..........

If I understand the question, you are asking if you have ATRAC and locking rear diff on a 4X2?

Re: Rear Locker..........

Yeah, I'm pretty sure LSD is only on 2WD models.

Re: Rear Locker..........

Yes, the LSD is only on 4X2's, while the locker is on both 4X2 and 4X4, and the ATRAC is only 4X4. If you have the LSD, you do NOT have the locker. That's a different rear end.

Re: Rear Locker..........

I have the locker and it came with the switch. I am certainly no expert on these things but mine has an "Auto LSD" switch as well. I think that there was a thread around here on the forum that explained what all these different options do.

I would do a search on Auto LSD, or Rear Diff Lockers. The thread I am thinking about explained what each item does. All I know is if I get in a "sticky" situation, i.e. mud, and I am spinning a tire, I engage the Rear Diff Lock. I can crawl out nicely. I don't have a winch but have never gotten into a situation that I could not get myself out of yet, with a little creative driving.

Re: Rear Locker..........

So i'm curious about how the traction controll works for the 4x2 crowd. Do the 4x2's have traction control? If so, does locking the rear diff, or activating the LSD button disable it? I would imagine since you don't have 4WD you would need some kind of wheel spin to help get out of some situations.

Re: Rear Locker..........

Yes, we still have VSC with no way to cancel it. Which REALLY sucks, because as a 4X2 sometimes we NEED wheel spin to get out of a jam. You get that sinking feeling (literally AND figuratively) when you hit the locker and hear that beeping noise in mud or soft sand.....

Ditto. Air locker engages/disengages way faster. Love it!

So far with the ARB air locker VSC or LSD have been a factor, the locker pulls me out of any slippery, sticky or deep sand situation only once I turned of the LSD to get more RPM (acceleration). One of the two LSD or VSC limits your RPM so you don't slip the whole truck.
