First of all, I bought my FJ back in January with the intention of it towing my boat and taking me to some remote locations for fishing, biking and hiking. My free time is spent fishing mostly, so serious off-roading is not something I'll be doing most likely. Hence the 2WD purchase.
Well this past weekend I was with my dad exploring the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge in central Florida. It was pouring down rain and it had been for several days prior. But we were cooped up and wanted to get out. Anyway, I went down this one super-muddy skinny dirt road that goes out to a pond. As I was reversing back down the road, my back passenger side tire fell off of the road and into a water filled ditch alongside the road. I felt the whole FJ fall back and could feel it rocking back and forth (at least one of the tires was up in the air.)
I put on the E-brake and we get out to assess the situation. I don't know if you can picture this, but the 2 front tires are on the ground, the rear passenger side tire is in the ditch about 6 inches in the water and the driver side rear tire is hanging in the air. I thought I was screwed only having 2WD LOL. Thinking that getting a tow was probable, I decided to get back in and give it some gas to see what it would do. So I hop back in and put in drive, give it some gas and it hops right out of the ditch like it was nothing.
And this was with a pretty much bone stock 2WD FJ (well it has the rear locker and auto LSD.) Anyway, my dad hops back in and says, "Well, I'm impressed." LOL
Sorry for the long post, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Hah well done windblows. I trust you were smarter than I was when I did the same thing a few years back in my 99 Tacoma. I had just pulled over on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Michigan (and there was snow on the ground hence I didn't see the ditch). Now where you were smarter is that you were probably wearing your seatbelt. All of a sudden I feel my passenger front wheel drop two feet into a ditch and I bounce off the steering wheel reasonably hard. Of course I then utter "Oh F***" to whoever I was talking to on the phone (yeah, this could be a list of things you shouldn't do!). I had to put in 4 Lo to get out, so if you were able to do it in 2 wheel drive, my hat is off to you.
I know that this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say....Shame on you for ever doubting the 2wd FJ. With "Auto LSD" and or a locker, you can go almost anywhere if you know how to use the long skinny pedal!!!
