I was reading the Demello VS Trail Gear thread which shot me over here. Bill, a little has changed on Taira since the "good ol' days"!!!

Holy Resurrection, Batman. Yes, my little baby has changed a bit since my Trail Gear install. but the rails are holding up just fine. They're in there somewhere
Hey man...good to know since the wife ordered these for me as a Christmas present...expecting them any day...wished I had bare metal on mine. As far as the ratchets...I have the same set scattered within a three mile radius.
Thank you for the very informative post. I took delivery of my 2008 FJ Saturday night, and the vehicle came with the factory running board option. I knew those would tear up easily, so ordered a set of these sliders after reading your thread. Finding them on sale from Trail Gear for $199 sealed the deal. Like you, this will be my first mod!
Now to find someone that wants to buy a set of brand new factory running boards . . .
Would you consider these ample for a step? I'm torn between these and some n-fabs. These bolt to the frame and seem like they would give an added measure of protection--not sure under what circumstances, but in my mind it works. The n-fabs look cool, but they bolt to the body--no protection from anything

They work great for a step, but a bit slippery when wet. You can pick up some gritty decal stuff at a hardware store and put it on the section by the door (top only) and it would work perfectly.
