I agree with you about powder coating. I will probably paint mine also, but I did talk to Line x and they said they would do it for $125.00. Line x should hold up very well and have the added benefit of not needing non skid tape applied to top of rails.
Have you seen what bed-liner coatings look like in a couple of years down the road? And good luck getting dirt/salt out of the texture.

I rattle-canned mine. easy to keep clean, and cheap to touch up.

FJ Dragon - that is probably the best install writeup ever on this forum. The rock rails look great. I'm thinking either painting or Duramax. Are you going to add non-slip pads on the rails to step on? Unfortunately I cannot make Tall Corn, and I so wanted to. Excellent job on writeup.

Ya, agreed - FJ Dragon awesome job on the write up. Thanks for taking the extra time to do it. I appreciate it huge as it really makes my decision to by sliders that much easier.

I have products powder coated every day where I work. Automobile body work is powder coated. Our FJ is probably powder coated 18 gauge A60 galvannealed metal.

...so does your car paint scratch easily? When it does, can you just paint over it? When powder coat (electrostatically applied powder that is baked on) gets scratched, you have to grind, fill, sand, repaint etc due to the depth difference between the surface and the scratch depth.

Rock rails will get scratched. Period. No matter what you use.

Instead of setting myself up for continual work, I set myself up to take an aeresol can and touch up for 20 seconds after offroading.

I hope that makes sense
Thanks for the clarification. I never thought of it that way. I was under the assumption that powdercoated objects were extremely tough. Looks like rattle can for me!

FJDragon. thanks for the good pics. After reading your input on the powdercoating, I think I will be painting my all pros when they get here. I had scheduled with the powdercoaters, but I think I will paint the rims and sliders myself and keep the money for touch up paint.

Re: My Trail Gear Slider Story (pics)

So.....

Are this sliders sturdy enough to use to jack up the vehicle with a Hi-Jack? Though most of my off roading doesn't include rocks, I seriously considered getting some rails as a means to jack up the vehicle to change tires for the Hi-Jack, thus avoiding the sucky stock tire jack usage that I always dread when getting a flat tire.

thanks

I painted my Allpros with rustoleum textured paint. Don't think you need to put anything on those.
