Re: Complete Slider Comparison

Just got my silver Man-A-Fres. Big thanks to Steve for an amazing packing job. I got myself an HD DVD player for Xmas and it wasn't packed this well.

MAF - the only sliders approved and guarded over by Arnold.

Too fricking cold out right now, but with jackstands I am sure I can put these on solo.

Re: Complete Slider Comparison

Noisycow, nice sliders. They are beefy. I'm sure you'll post pics after they are on. Put a towel on a floor jack and they'll almost put themselves on. I wish I had an air ratchet when I put mine on. They would have been on in less than 5 minutes.

Re: Complete Slider Comparison

nice sliders! I just ordered a set in black.

As for the Rocky Roads sliders, they are made to order and takes 1-1.5 weeks currently to fab.

Re: Complete Slider Comparison

What is the final verdict (as of today) on who provides a slider with the most usable area for our feet when entering/exiting. (regardless of an actual 'step' being incorporated).
I'm guessing that it is between Man-a-Fre and Expedition One; yet I don't see either one touting this fact over all the others that aren't even close. (I'm talking a simple measurement from the sill edge to the outside tube in the door area).

I second that question!

Re: Complete Slider Comparison

I think you can search the individual Slider posts to get most of the information. I know that one of the MAF post has some REALLY good pics with shoe/boot standing on the slider to give you an idea of the surface area.

Maybe jfonz of Expedition One would care to replicate that same picture with his sliders to give us a comparison....seeing how these two are are the only ones seemingly competing in the 'step slider' arena!

Here's the answer to your question for the wide version of the Man-a-Fre sliders. They seem to be tapered a bit so they stick out further towards the back.

Towards the front of the front door: ~2.5"
In the area of the rear door: ~ 3"

Practically speaking, I don't think these will work very well as a step to get in and out of the FJ. For one thing, they are only about 2" below the level of the door sill, so they don't shorten the step-up height that much anyway. However, they work very well as a step to get up on to access the roof rack, which is one of the things I was looking for.

Hope this helps.

Dave
