Just ordered my Trail Gear sliders. They indicated that they would likely ship out same day. Getting more excited now - this will by my first modification that is visible from outside the vehicle.

You forgot Metalgear, but that's Ok because he's been leading me on for about three months now. Got tired of his (Mark's) B.S. and bought a better product, got Dellemo's sliders. they are VERY well made and look great!!!

so being the benevolent saint you are, a genuine automotive manufacturers "robin hood" if you will. you, in your infinite wisdom, and charitable self, have elected to support poor, poor, toyota, on their last legs, who may or may not survive as the soon to be the "WORLDS BIGGEST AUTO MANUFACTURER." yes these are troubled times, when these evil independent aftermarket companies, many of which are run by the scourge of the industry "enthusiasts!" how dare they make stuff they like, for profit even! and rob food from the mouthes of toyotas children! shame on them!

Take what man makes and use it,
But do not worship it,
For it shall pass.
If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do,
Chapels had been churches, and poor mans cottages, princes’ palaces.
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.

Going with the rattle-can. Debated quite a bit about this but in the end I figured that I would feel better about just being able to put another coat of paint on the sliders after scratching them up. Any recommendations on paint color/brand?

I too am looking for suggestions.. I have read that Rustoleum Hammered Paint is good, because it hides imperfections like gouges in the paint. However, it looks more gray than black as is indicated on the label, so if you want black, use the hammered first, then lightly use semi-flat black rustoleum over it as the final coat.. Again, this isn't my experience, just what I have heard. Anyone with experience painting bumpers, skids, etc. care to weigh in?
I use a cheapo craftsman HVLP (high volume, low pressure) spray gun with my compressor.
This allows me to buy paint in bulk, and mix it to MY needs. I usually mix it a little thicker then recommended...and that seems to help a bit.
Im not a paint guru at all, but semi-flat black on raw steel is forgiving...as opposed to candy-apple red on flat body panels.
I use a paint that is referred to as 'trim black'...its basically black frame paint. I love the look...and it really lasts a lot longer then rattle-cans. I put 2-4 coats on, and allow about a day for final hardening before flipping for opposite side paint, or mounting. Rattle can crap dries quick, one advantage vs actual 'paint' that takes 18-24 hours to harden fully.
I also use a 'self-etching primer' for the basecoat. This stuff is expensive, but IMO, worth it....it actually etches into the raw steel, and provides a nice foundation for the final product....I have no links for that, but I get it from the bodyshop next to my work....its NOT cheap. I spend $20/can, but again, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. And I already know...the stuff I am painting will get scuffed up, but if you prep it right, and paint it right....it will look nice.
Im not worried about re-painting/touching up, cause everything I have unbolts and can be done in the garage in just an hour or two. And if I DO get anal about it, I can pull out the rattle can and touch up those scratched up spots.
