Going with the rattle-can. Debated quite a bit about this but in the end I figured that I would feel better about just being able to put another coat of paint on the sliders after scratching them up. Any recommendations on paint color/brand?
PJ1 Epoxy frame paint. Can be bought in rattle cans. Used a lot on motorcycle frames. ..:: PJ1 ::..
I have absolutely no affiliation with them or any of their products.
hey andy, youre killing us over here! your boy at ruffstuff gave you the green light to post pics of those sliders. lets see 'em. or am i the only one that checks this thread every 2 minutes hoping for those pics?
I messaged Andy about this and he said that he doesn't have pics of the complete setup, just pieces. I'm waiting to see these too, before I buy anything else. I have heard that there isn't really a step on these sliders. Hopefully we will see soon

What a great forum! I bought my FJ a couple of weeks ago (voodoo blue) and am looking at adding rails and maybe a nother set of wheels for offroad. Looking at the pictures and reading the comments, I don't think I can go wrong with any of those. How easy are these to install? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined (water pump, belts, brakes, suspension, etc), but have never installed rails before. Also this is my first truck and I would really like to start offroading safely. Any trails in the SoCal area for a beginner?
Thanks and hope to see some of you guys in gatherings!

They install pretty easily. I am sure that most (including Man-A-Fre's) install using the factory mounting holes that are already on you frame. We provide hardware with our sliders, so you are looking at screwing in 16 bolts and your done!
Quick question - can anyone confirm that the toyota rock rails are constructed from stainless steel in full or at least in part?
I grabbed the toyota accessory pamphlet from the Toyota parts dept today, and it says:
"These rock rails are fully functional and trail ready. They protect the underside and lower sheet metal, and absorb the impact of the trail. The stainless steel tubing is black powder and e-coated to withstand rust and corrosion."
This quote implies that the tubing sections of the toyota sliders are in fact stainless.
Can anyone confirm or deny? Magnetism test not valid for all types of stainless but it might be an easy way for anyone with the factory sliders to do a preliminary check.

Put a magnet on it. If it sticks, it's not stainless.
