Re: Front Hitch Receiver From Curt Now Available!

I got it from etrailer($150 or sth) along with a 55 buck winch plate. free shipping.

I'd like addOp to have look at this. He posted further up that 4 bolt on the bumper mount will hold 9200 or something. and I'm mounting to all 8 indirectly. 6 directly. so i should be okay...

All you need is an angle grinder, and drill, and a bunch of time
Come to chat?

Old Iron Sides as in the USS Constitution thats docked in boston?? you in boston?

Stig,

No I'm not in Boston, sorry, I live in California, and yes "Old Ironsides" was influenced by the USS Constitution.

"Old Ironsides" (in the context of my avatar) is for a millitary unit I served in called First Armored Division. You can read all about it on the web link in my sig.

So just an angle grinder and drill ey?!

By the way, the Stig is great! Love that show!

Re: Front Hitch Receiver From Curt Now Available!

YAY a top gear fan. That show is the best. Stig is the best!

you may need a small diameter grinder to cut the slot after drilling the holes. If you look at the pic where I just have holes in the steel plate... I had one idea of how to distribute the load a bit. hang on let me draw a diagram. ever done fjcruiserforums.com chat?

I've gone to see the uss constitution twice. Love that ship. I'm not a military person but I am a nautical person.

Re: Front Hitch Receiver From Curt Now Available!

Diagram Explanation:
I thought of putting some extra washers in the upper bolts on the bumper mounts. I haven't drawn the bumper bar, but the hitch receiver will also be bolted onto the bumper bar.

Is this a good idea? what sort of washers?

"the hitch receiver will also be bolted onto the bumper bar"
I was very surprise on how flexible the bumper and the two "beam" are.
see my post Roof rack Front T-rack for my FJ so I can go HG

Re: Front Hitch Receiver From Curt Now Available!

I was expecting it be flexible but not too much... Thanks for this input.
Maybe if I have the hitch receiver a little lower so that it's pushing down on the bumper bar, so it will be a little flexed to begin with.

Hehe yes metric is so much better.

Whats the dakar mount that you listed as one of the things that helped you?

Re: Front Hitch Receiver From Curt Now Available!

Stig,

I recieved a offer from AJ who owns bentup.com to build me a complete replacment for the stock thin steel bumper with a hitch built into it.

I think this is the route I'm going to go for strength reasons and it will still be hidden under the stock plastic bumper cover.

I may pull off the stock steel bumper and just take it up to him in Sacremento with out the rest of the FJ.

I'll keep you updated.
