Talking Does the ARB front bumper help make the FJ stable

I realize on a windy day in Chicago the FJ feels light as if it could be blown away on the expressway. Does the ARB bumper help it feel more stable? What can be done to make the FJ feel less like it could be blown away!

You could drive something with less of a sideways profile.

Since it's a truck, the weight is still going to be biased towards the front--that's where the engine is. All the ARB bumper is make the vehicle more front heavy, sag the stock springs even more (thus necessitating the need for a lift).

So, no to your question.

Re: Does the ARB front bumper help make the FJ stable

I just drove to tenn. from texas. wind, bad roads etc. I never felt unstable or like i was about too blow away. Thats the reason i wont take the wifes 99 explorer. because IT felt loose. Her car is old and it may need some repair but in my 1700 mile round trip i had no such problem so i cant help. Maybe your out of alignment or something needs too be checked by the dealer?

My particular truck feels VERY stable! Is yours lifted? I dont know if that would do it or not as mine is still stock?

No, I don't have a lift on my FJ but this is the second time on an extremely windy day in Chicago that the FJ felt like it was about to blow away. The first time was back in April and I was Parked. Maybe it's not the truck especially when the wind is blowing about 15 to 20 miles an hour!

Re: Does the ARB front bumper help make the FJ stable

I think it's just the deisgn of the FJ that makes it feel like it's getting blown around. The FJ has flat and pretty tall sides, that creates a large sail area that acts exactly like a sail when a crosswind gusts. You didn't mention being blown to the next lane so I guess it's just the reaction to the gust you're feeling. I was driving a friends Suzuki Sidekick years ago when I was blown into the next lane and couldn't do anything about it- that was scary!

Have you ever owned a truck before?

They do that in the wind.
