Re: Question for Trail-Gear slider users

I'm seriously considering getting these, but know about the re-routing of the brake line, and this is the only thing really stopping me.

I'm a total noob at this stuff, and messing up the brakes is not really something I'd want to do... so, my question is... how easy is it really to install taking into consideration the brake lines? I know the holes line up and all hardware is included... but how easy is it to reroute that line?

TIA

Don't let that stop you. It's just the parking brake cable, not your service brakes.
I unbolted the cable at one spot where in connects to the frame installed the sliders and forgot to fasten it back and it still works fine. it may snag on something of course but thats my problem. you could just get some large plastic tietie wraps and secure it to the sliders.

Re: Question for Trail-Gear slider users

^ Ahh, good to know. I thought it was the actual brake lines. That makes a huge difference. From what I have read I think I'm going to place the order today.

One last question... is it as easy as spraying primer and paint on these things? No prep work is needed before spraying them?

That's all i did. It just depends what you want the final outcome to be. Remember what these are to be used for. I wasn't worried about weld shlag and paint drips on something that is going to get scraped on rocks.

Already used a couple times ...

The brake lines in question are the emergency brake cables. You won't hurt them as long as you don't put excessive pressure on them. In the areas on mine where I was concerned about them chafing, I cut a 1 foot length of black 3/4" ID garden hose, slit it lengthwise, wrapped around the area in question, and ty wrapped it in place. No chafing worries now.

^ Good idea!! That definitely will ease the mind...

We're supposed to pick the truck up Wednesday... so I'm trying to wait just to make sure everything goes how it is supposed to... but my money says I'll be ordering by the end of the day

I washed mine with soap and water to remove any oil residue. One of mine had a spot where someone had sprayed on some red paint (probably as a visual differentiator between left & right), so I sanded that off before priming.

Hey, delmarva fj, could you tell me some more about that in the stock bumper. I would have started a new thread, but I don't know how, sorry.
