Powdercoated Trail Gear Sliders

A couple of months ago there were some rumours floating about that folks were waiting on Trail Gear to offer their sliders powdercoated for $300 , anyone here anything updated on this?

I spoke with someone at Trail Gear yesterday and was told it will be at least another month before they are ready. I think I'm going to order some now and just rattle can them.

Re: Powdercoated Trail Gear Sliders

With so many negatives to powdercoating and so many benefits to spray paints...why would you want the powdercoating?

Sorry, had to chime in. What negatives are you talking about regarding powercoating? It's finish is far better than rattle can not to mention the toughness of it.

Are you just referring to the cost maybe?

As a previous powdercoater I can tell you that IF you plan to use your skids you should save yerself some major $ by spray painting them. Try to touch up a powdercoat and pass it off as clean. They will look like hell in no time at all.
Cost? Besides the point it costs ALOT more its simply not worth spending $ to have something that looks like hell later. IMHO mind you.
Do some searching and take a look to see what, why, and how people are keeping thier rigs looking good while still tearing it up. I could go on for awhile, but Im getting tired...

Agreed. Here is a post of mine from another thread

I have products powder coated every day where I work. Automobile body work is powder coated. Our FJ is probably powder coated 18 gauge A60 galvannealed metal.

...so does your car paint scratch easily? When it does, can you just paint over it? When powder coat (electrostatically applied powder that is baked on) gets scratched, you have to grind, fill, sand, repaint etc due to the depth difference between the surface and the scratch depth.

Rock rails will get scratched. Period. No matter what you use.

Instead of setting myself up for continual work, I set myself up to take an aeresol can and touch up for 20 seconds after offroading.

I hope that makes sense

Re: Powdercoated Trail Gear Sliders

Isn't it easy to touch up even a powercoated rail if you use something like Herculiner, or better yet, paint them with Herculiner/Durabak and touch up as needed?
