3/16" or 1/4" Winch Mount-Any experience?

Narrowed my AM bumper choice down to a couple. One has 3/16" winch mount, the other 1/4" winch mount. Both have 1/8" 'skin'. Price is about the same, I prefer the one with 3/16" winch mount for it's looks....will this be enough or should I go with the 1/4"? Cheers!

If you look at the winch mount requirments of the winch manufacturers, see what their minimum requirements are for the winch mounting surface. I hate to say the looks are very important but that will eventually be the deciding factor. Weight is a big issue for me and one of the lightest ones happened to be the one I liked the looks of the most (Demello).

Fact is Demello is the 1/4" mount I'm considering, the 3/16" mount is the Expedition One...both have very similar look in my eyes. Thanks and I'll now check what the winch manuf's say re: mounting.

Just looked at my Warn M8000 install guide and it recommends 1/4". It was still sitting on my coffee table from doing the install yesterday.

Great then that settles it, that is the exact winch I was going to buy, so it looks like the DO is going to be my choice. You guys are so helpful! Cheers!

Fine choice, don't hesitate to ask for help with the install. Review this thread by MoabRat on his install where 1911 and I put input with our installs also as well as feedback from sbechtold regarding how he wired his winch.

Yes I have read those threads re: the winch install... along with the threads re: DO bumper installs. I can't wait to get that suff on my FJ.

Mtbcoach...I see you have the OME suspension, that is what I'm considering, I understand it will result in a 1.5-2" lift, and have enough support for the new DO bumper and Warn winch. What do you think of your OEM suspension? I will have that pro installed however.

I bought my OME kit from FJ Cruiser Offroad (aka Toyota of Dallas), one of our supporting vendors. After speaking to Valkerie, then Jacque, they helped me pick the specific spring/shock set up from OME (as you can see in my sig). I think that it is a great set up. As I mentioned in the above thread, with the bumper/winch, the front has settled ~ 1/2" but has made the front end much less harsh. I would highly recommend the OME parts as well as FJ Cruiser Offroad as the supplier.

Thats great, Toyota of Dallas is about 5 or 6 miles from my work. They seem to have good prices, however they don't post price of OME kit, do you mind telling me what you paid for your kit. Did you install yourself or pro install, and if so what should I expect to pay for pro install?
