So where can you by 2 guage wire and the fittings to go over the end for the winch solenoid? I live in BFE and only get to town every few weeks so I need to make my shopping list now. Thanks for any help.
NAPA is a good place to get 2 gauge SAE battery cable, though you might call ahead and make sure they have the quantity you need on hand. They may have to pre-order it. It comes on 25 foot spools and they may not have the length you need left on their spool.
Other auto parts stores carry it but usually not in bulk spools, just as pre built battery cables.
Another alternative is a welding shop. Another 3rd option is a car stereo shop, which may have 2 gauge wire for powering car audio amplifiers.
2 gauge car audio power wire may actually be made up of a larger number of smaller strands of actual wire and so may be more flexible and easier to work with. But it may not be "genuine" Society of Automobile Engineers Battery Cable (not that that matters much, really, but the SAE label is comforting to me personally because it means that the insualation has been certified for underhood operation with actual car batteries by an actual certification body which actually is recognized) The car audio people say the insulation on their wire is completely adequate, and it probably is. But personally I like the fact that the battery cables for my auxiliary battery says "2 GAGE SAE BATTERY CABLE" on them.
Not to cast aspsersions upon those who power their winch with fancy psychedelic colored audio power cable, mind you.
The lugs for the ends of 2 gauge wire can be obtained at NAPA also. Check ahead to make sure they have the ones to fit the lugs you want to connect to. They may have to pre order those as well.

Thanks a million Sol! The directions were perfect. I installed CruiserLarry's dual battery set up last weekend, then ran the Blue Sea fuse block like you did this weekend. Installed BigBill's CB install, plus 3 more 12 volt outlets (2 in the back of the center console, 1 above the 400W outlet in the rear) and ran all of them through the fuse block in the passenger kick panel. I was going to run the 6GA all the way to the rear and put another fuse block back there but then realized I would still have to run more wire to get the switches up front, so I will deal with that, one item at a time.
Thanks again for the inspiration and great directions!
Just some f/u on the Hellroaring isolator module.
I have had this for about 6 months and it is an awesome unit. Recently the interior LED control indicator began blinking and I e-mailed Mike at Hellroaring. I e-mailed on a Sunday in the middle of a holiday w/e and Mike immediately e-mailed me back with a diagnosis. How is that for after sales support?
BTY, the problem was with a loose connection, and not the unit.
Mike apparently even e-mails morons on his day off.
I think I will celebrate and go winch something.
Great job Sol, I love your elec work; very neat and clean. I will doing your duel battery install here soon, just got around to reading it. Great Job; Rep Points to ya buddy.
P.S. I did something like what you did, I too used the Blue Sea pannel from West Marine. I ran mine in the drivers compartment, here's a link.
