I have mentioned them on the forum here in a thread and have sold a few to customers. I'm pretty careful about pushing products that I haven't tested or at least others have tested. Meaning I won't give my approval till I'm confident in them.
I recently returned from the Texas Jambo where I got a chance to use the winch extensively. I used it on two separate occasions. To pull multiple FJC'c up a trail. One day I had at least 7 fairly hard pulls. The winch preformed great compared to what I have run in the past for years at a time including a warn 8000M, and a summitracings 9000.
The biggest improvement that I've never used before but I was really happy to see it was the wire-less winch controller which is built into the winch so no need to wire it or anything. The distance on it was about one to one and half truck lengths which was nice because you didn't have to be in the truck or even right next to it to operate the winch. Plus no plugging into anything. The winch still has this option in case the batteries in your wire-less controller go out but I do like the idea of putting the controller in my pocket and running down the trail to hook it up then pushing a button. It made for IMO way faster and way easier recovery's.
The other feature that I wasn't to excited about at first was the fancy hook it comes with, IMO it was huge and kind of big but it has a cool lock out feature that allows you to release and lock it on to anther vehicles tow point or strap. I like things compact and the hook isn't that compact but I also like easy and it was pretty nice and easy to use. So I'll be leaving it on there for sure.
The battery cut off switch IMO made it a little harder to use the winch because I mounted it under the hood (which I may change) but it's a safety feature and for that I did like it, it just made an extra step in turning on the winch. (call me lazy
I'm a big fan of the winch now and can honestly say I'd recommend it. There were a couple people on the trail those two days in Texas that got to see it in action. Maybe they will respond to this post as well.
I am one of those customers that bought the TJM from Jason at Demello-Offroad
I am doing the install when i get my Evil Eye, I will update with pics when doing Install
I hope someone can help me with this. I just received my DO bumper yesterday along with this winch. I went to mount the winch in the bumper but the control box does not fit. What am I susposed to do?
Some people take the box off of of the winch assembly itself and mount it separately.
Depending on room available you might need to lengthen the wiring. Make sure you waterproof all the connectors. You should probably hit up Jason with a PM or phone call to see where they usually mount it.
Congrats on the set up!. I just helped a buddy put one of those Steaths in his tundra.....frikken loving it
Sorry to bring a thread back from purgatory.. But now this has been quite some time, and assuming that more people have purchased the TJM winches since.. Any update and long term reviews on the TJM winches? I am looking at getting a stealth series 10k winch to pair with my Brute Force Fab bumper. Thank you in advance!
I've had mine for about 6 months now. It is big. I mean huge compare to anything else on the market. The winch is great and overbuild. Top notch quality. Keep the size in mind for your bumper. I know DO bumpers are fine I'm not sure about the rest.
Width is at 34 9/16" at the widest. The back is pretty wide open, just depends on how close I get to the AC lines as well as anything in the original framework. Just mainly worried about the winch and solenoids actually fitting themselves.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
