Re: FJC Drivers Can learn From Hummer Drivers

Toyota is going to do some regional driving demonstrations with the FJC, at least that was the rumor a couple of months ago. I think Bill Burke is heading it up. Maybe someone else around here knows more and can comment?

I won't lower my self to your level and resort to name calling.

Look at the 2006 Jeep Jambo schedule

http://jeepjamboreeusa.com/schedule.htm

How many events does the TLCA have?

I could care less about the TCLA. They might have been around for 30 years, but most of those 30 years has been devoted to Landcruisers. They never cared before for the 4WD truck guys.

If I wanted a Jeep, I would be posting on Jeep forums. "Helo are you listining"???

I know some people here get all worked up when someone suggests a competitor has a decent product. When it comes to organizing events, Jeep Jamboree sets the bar pretty high.

Is there anyone here who honestly wouldn't want a "Jambo" experience in their Toyota/FJ?

Hello.....What is a land cruiser specifically the FJ40 ?..That the TOYOTA Land Cruisers Association ( TLCA)was founded on the 70's, Specifically for Toyota Enthusiasts. Maybe you should get a Heep if you want to join THERE club so bad...Or try a little research..

Re: FJC Drivers Can learn From Hummer Drivers

I agree about the Jamboree, I really hope toyota uses this as an excuse to have some events. Land Cruiser, Hummer and Jeep dealerships often have 4wd events for their customers, even doing something like that at the local level would be an improvement.

Land Cruisers are Land Cruisers (FJxx-UZJ series). TLCA was founded for Land Cruiser enthusiasts. Hence the words "Land Cuiser" in the name of the club. Land Cuisers have traditionally been very different (mechanically) from the pickup truck/4Runners. So the two groups didn't really have much in common besides a common manufacturer. That's why TLCA is mostly Cruiser guys. I'd rather hang out with the 4Runner/pickup guys anyways.

Re: FJC Drivers Can learn From Hummer Drivers

Just to add to the Jeep Jamboree Discussion--I was recently reading about these events and found that many (most?) of them have nothing to do with off-road exercises and have everything to do with marketing the jeep name, usually at outdoor activities such as snowboarding, mountainbiking events, etc.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I picked up a jeep brochure (it was left at my table in an airport and I used it as a coaster) and looked at all the Heep events this year...and as far as events organized by Jeep officially I didn't see more than one or two off road excursions. Like I said, most of them were just things sponsored by jeep, with a jeep sitting there (shiny and not doing anything).

IMHO, 1) Toyota does not need that type of advertising, as they are poised to be the number one automaker in the world this year (meanwhile GM will be bankrupt soon) 2) Who cares if there is a Jeep Jamboree--that is pretty damned exclusive and I'd like to think that FJC owners would rather be part of a local 4x4 club that welcomes all offroaders not just people who can relate to poor quality and reliability.

Oh yeah, I know Jeep is part of Daimler/Chrysler--I was using GM (largest auto manufacturer) for comparison to Toyota.

Re: FJC Drivers Can learn From Hummer Drivers

I think some of you may have missed Granger’s point. He was suggesting a Jamboree type format, where FJC Owners and Toyota senior representatives gather to exchange ideas, skills and knowledge, not specifically a Jamboree format like the one Jeep conducts.

This is a two way street. Toyota will be able to educate technical aspects to the owners and to instruct driving techniques to the less experienced drivers among us. On the surface this might not be appeal to the trail experienced owners, but Toyota should be encouraged to have driving clinics and allow the experienced drivers share their skills and knowledge. Also enlist the experienced mechanical guys to assist teaching maintenance skills to us less mechanically adept.

The owners will contribute by sharing our ideas, desires, and modifications with Toyota. This is where the veteran 4x4 owners of the group would shine. The modifications and concepts presented by this group of the owners will benefit the FJC future design and inclusion of additional features. Everyone knows that owner modifications prove what can be done and lead to improved products.

If the word Jamboree is distasteful because of the Jeep connotation, then we should call it something else, but IMO the concept is good. As a suggestion, maybe the ex-military guys might like the name FJ Cruiser AIT (Advanced Instructional Training), then again maybe not.

The event must be held where we can drive our own vehicles, and there must be at least two trails of different skill levels. I’m willing to bet for no other reason than to see the modifications owners have made to their rigs, Toyota would be willing to host an event. Toyota has expressed that have do not want the expense of advertising the FJC, but hope that it becomes popular by owner talking to friends and neighbors. The best way to ensure owners continue to boost this vehicle’s image is to have Toyota show interest in its buyers after the sale. Promotional cost for hosting Jamboree type events will be far less than media advertising.
