Traction control off switch?

We've gotten alot of snow recently and my wife and I have gone out to play in the snow. As you'll be able to tell by my question... we don't go off road much in the FJ. I would like to, I just haven't made time to do so yet. I can't seem to figure out how to "Set the FJ free"! If I put it in 4H and turn off traction control... I can spin the tires... but as soon as I try sliding around I still get what appears to be the traction control light and something trys to prevent me from sliding around freely. Any way to get around this? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Traction control off switch?

What year is the FJ?
Do you have a traction control cancel switch? If you do, you have to hold it down for it to stay off.

If you don't have the button, simply unplug the wiring harness on the front of the brake reservoir. This is the easiest solution for FJ's like ours.... there are some good mods where guys have installed their own buttons. A quick search will reveal those threads. The ABS light comes on as well as the traction control lights, but the abs is still active. You need to yank the fuse to disable the abs.

Re: Traction control off switch?

do you have the upper left button? If so hold the button for 5 seconds while stopped and free the FJ!

Re: Traction control off switch?

In my 2010 I have to, while basically stopped, press and hold the traction control button for about 3 or 4 seconds. Then both vsc and trac control get turned off. Sounds like youre disabling the trac control but not vsc so you can spin your tires, but if you go sideways it will beep and cut power.

Re: Traction control off switch?

If you're an older truck, you don't have the option from the factory. You can install one yourself if you're handy though. Here's a good link:

Here's a picture of where I put mine in my 2007:

Traction control off switch?

I needed to press and hold the traction control off button.. I was turning off traction control by pressing the button but it wasn't deactivating VSC. Thank you guys for your input. I appreciate it! And sorry for my delayed response. I'm trying to get in the habit of checking the forum more. It just hasn't become a daily necessity yet :-). Thanks again guys!

Re: Traction control off switch?

according to the manual a quick press only disables one of the systems, push and hold for 5 seconds to disable both.
