How to mod a Taco. Thanks guys.

Long story short, I still have my green, '98 Tacoma.

And now that I am keeping it, I want to mod it as much as my wallet will allow. First things that come to mind are bigger tires and a lift, and I will need to change the gear ratio of course. I could also use some KC lights and a place to mount them. How 'bout some body armor?

My question for you fellas/ladies is what should I do first? What websites or companies are the best and offer the best quality? Ya know, just some general advice would be mush appreciated. You know I love you.

I found that Revtek offers a 3" spacer lift for $525. It sounds reasonable, however I have no idea what else is out there. I'm still doing a lot of surfing, just hoping I could get some pointers for some avid 4 wheelers out there.

Percy and I are going to dune race our Taco's as soon as he comes back up north.

Help me!

SIGN UP PHUCKER.

I guess it takes awhile for them to respond though. Took mine to play in the dirt today. It's still in the break in period so I can't see what it can do speed wise. So we did some slow stuff - under 35 mph in 4-Hi. Maybe a class II in some parts but pretty much a real bumpy dirt road with one or two - slightly exciting - spots. Tone.. just mod your taco bro - these things rule.

O5_Taco is on TTORA. On a serious note - now that I've quenched my obsession I'll probably start working real stinkin' hard so I can pay this thing off early and not get nailed by all of the interest. 3 years tops, is the goal. Plus - now I need toys for the Taco. Hi-lift, rock rails, bull bar, roll bar, light kit - not to mention the necessities... snatch block, tow strap, tree saver.

Now I have weekends to devote to exploring with the girls (Andi and Katie) they seem to enjoy bumpy backroads. Another long day of breaking in tomorrow. Gotta run. You've got my email address bro. Somehow I think it's unfair for us to be talking Taco amidst the boys who are all stir-crazy waiting for their toys.

Cheers!

Re: How to mod a Taco. Thanks guys.

Percy,

I guessed I missed it - you scored a new Taco? Good for you!

The wife and I were at the local Toyota store yesterday scoping new Tacoma's and asking about the FJ. I'm seriously leaning towards another Tacoma, just seems like way more truck for the $$$$.

If you get an itch to cover some territory to your north, drop me a PM and we'll strafe some Ghost Towns!

Tone,

TTORA is a great source of information, but the crowd can be unforgiving of folks who don't use the search function (sound familiar?). I mostly lurk..

I looked into this a bit and my understanding is that the RevTek spacer lift is the best of the bunch, and will get the job done (allow the use of taller tires) but on-road ride will suffer, as it stiffens up. Coil-overs are the "better" solution, but way more $$$. Check some of the sponsors and the classifieds over there, you may get lucky and find a deal.

I decided not to lift our present Tacoma, a 95 xtra-cab fitted with 31's. It just didn't seem like a good use of limited toy money for us. There's LOTS of wheelin around here and I haven't had an issue with clearance, yet. That being said, if the trail gets real rough, I'll just come back at it with the "one-wheel-drive tractor" (see avatar) - problem solved!

Best to you all!

Congrats on the new Taco! What's your username on TTORA?

Yeah, some of the guys over there can get downright rude...but that's typical with any public forum. You just gotta learn to ignore the a-holes!
