Please post pics! I can't wait to see what you've done. I'm trying to find some sort of workable solution for jerry can storage.
This is from LCNW, starting with an old bracket from my 40. I wanted it to be removable, secure, stout.

Re: Aftermarket fuel tanks

That's some great work! Very nice indeed...

I just don't want all that extra weight on my door.

Re: Aftermarket fuel tanks

I have to agree with chiming in that I would feel uncomfortable with a gerry can on the back of the spare tire in traffic. any other ideas for a gerry can mount are appreciated, also information about extra or larger fuel tanks.

you dont fill it up except going where being rear ended is unlikely, and the additional weight is easily within the strength of the door and tire rack. These arrangements are nothing new.

Re: Aftermarket fuel tanks

I could tell a long story, but to sum it up... I would rather it be full than empty. basically a tank full of fumes is far more dangerous, gasoline does not burn in liquid form.

Re: Aftermarket fuel tanks

ya air it out, let the fumes out, prior to recapping. Bad for the air if you are in LA, I realize.

Re: Aftermarket fuel tanks

when they remove gas tanks from cars they fill them with water first thing to force the fumes out, quicker and more thorough than just leaving the cap off to air it out.
