Full time 4X4

I noticed that the 6 speed manual is fulltime 4x4, doesnt that wear out the drivetrain faster?

Re: Full time 4X4

Not necessarily. The 80/100 series are both Full Time only and they've been around much longer with no ill effect. The 2003+ 4runner (v8) model also has the full time which is the same as the FJ and I've seen owners close to 100k with no problems.

Good luck

Nope, not that you would notice...The life of a full time 4X4 drive train is not significantly shorter than a part time. However, it is noisier and consumes a little more gas and more greasing to do........

Re: Full time 4X4

i would also like to add that the damage you could do when in part time when you shouldn't can be much more damaging.

Re: Full time 4X4

in a full time system you have a 3rd diffreintial, both axles and the transfer case, so if you get any bind at all it defaults to a 2 wheel drive either front of rear, look at it this way, the drive train should last longer as load is split front/rear. Less torque going to the rear.

Re: Full time 4X4

I would agree. I have had a bunch of AWD rigs over the years. All Subarus are full time AWD and run forever. I bought the 6 speed specifically to have full time 4 WD as I believe it makes for a safer vehicle in everyday driving and rocks off road as well.

Re: Full time 4X4

I too bought the 6MT to have the full time AWD. I can say that my mileage is very poor though; 14mpg average since day 1.
