Called Toyota on ATRAC Rear Locker Upgrade, here's what they said...

So I called Toyota to see what their take on retro fiting the older FJ to run Rear locker and ATRAC at the same time. Get this, they said that there is no functionality difference between the two vintages.

Basically, they said I didn't know what I was talking about and that there have been no rolling changes with how the systems works with regards to each other.

Has there been any formal documentation that I could use to slam these guys? Seems like they are sandbagging and want to ignor the issue.

you mean other than the obvious fact that the two don't work at the same time

while on the newer production units they do work?

And it is a special enhancement to the TRD SE

That's what I told them, they said I was high. They also said I wasn't the first to ask the question and they gave them the same response.

I wonder if we put together a group complaint maybe sponsored by the Forum so we have some weight?

OK, I'm stopping off at my dealership today. If there is some condensed documentation I can print out to them, let me know where it is. I'll go have a little chat.

I don't know anymore than: I now own 2 fj's. The August purchase, SN in the 39000 range won't allow ATRAC and Diff lock to be on at the same time. The December purchase SN in the 56000 range does allow both to be on at the same time. Maybe they gave me a black cherry TRD version by mistake

Sometimes I think any question harder than how do I put the key in the ignition is too much for the help desk. Granted that they have to answer questions about all makes and models, but there needs to be a cadre at the help desk that can deal will more then the "101" basics. I wonder if you had stayed on the line any longer, would you have been asked whether you wanted to super size your fries.

The service department has a guy that is in love with FJ's. He owns like three old land cruisers and I'll see if I can go run into him this afternoon. I'll see what they say. If anyone can link to the threads about this I'll print some copies off. I'd look myself but I'm really busy at work today.

The November - current production FJ's all have it to where both the Atrac and locker work simontaniously from the factory.
