Question To Hack or Not to Hack?

Really, Are any of these "hacks" worth doing? The ATrack+RLocker and the Rear Locker Hacks, seem abit How do you say Shottie and not a good idea if you like your FJ's ECU.

If you do the crimp type taping of the wire, you are asking for a short. And if you use Elc.tape to close a pin or cut off its connection, you got to ask your self why did they design it this way anyway?

Before you do any of these "Hacks" stop and think if it is worth it and waiting and get a Aftermarket or Toyota Plugin or ECU maping done insted.

Thats my two cents......

some people needs/wants it.....if you don't need or want then dont do it...95% of the FJ owner will do just fine without the hack.

Re: To Hack or Not to Hack?

You will not see a fix from Toyota on this.
http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...they-said.html

From all I have heard on doing the A Trac/locker hack, with both engaged it is almost like having a locker up front and easier to pull you out of stuck situation.

And Dau is right, most users will never need it, but it is nice to have as a backup just in case.
Toyota saw its importance to enable it on all new FJs being built now, and in the SE model.

Re: To Hack or Not to Hack?

To hack, this modification is the best thing you can do for traction. Just ran one of the hardest trails in the Tucson area, if I did not have this it would have been next to impossible. It's the closest thing to having the front locking diffs, it works so well the truck does not skip a beat. I'm sure if toyota does come up with a computer mod that would be the way to go but, how long is that going to take? They should have produced the vehicle w/ this option from stock form(come on toyota). A-trac works but it beats the hell out of your vehicle(skipping around on climbs tires jumping up and down )very hard on the diffs, works for most situations(less hardcore)but it's not full proof. W/ the rear locked and the atrac up front there is nothing you can't throw @ these vehicles, much less abuse on your baby, no skipping around. So I highly recommend this mod it's the cheapest and most effective way of receiving good traction.
Look where this mod can get you!!!!

It looks like A-trac was all you needed for that climb

Just do my "No cut-inside the cab-100% reversible" hack and forget about it.

Re-Examining the A-TRAC + RR DIFF LOCK Hack...

Ohh no, I have been up some similar obstacles and the atrac was scary, jumping all over, w/ out the mod I'de like to see you try. I admit that a-trac works for most situations but not on these(steep assents) I use to feel the way you do about atrac until I did this mod, now there is no turning back. This obstacle is called the unsurviable and trust me it is soooo steep(steeper than these pics, you know how pics are), saw some heepers try to make it up and it took them a long time(and these were rockhopping vehicles) They turned around after this obstacle I did not see them complete the trail.

thats not the atrac, its the lack of gearing for off road use.

Re: To Hack or Not to Hack?

Are there any shops or professional outlets doing the hack?

I just don't trust myself.

Thanks a great question. I wonder if Larry at Dirty Parts in Los Angeles has done or would consider doing this.
