Sceptor Military Gas Containers

Anyone have any bright ideas for keeping the Sceptor Military Gas containers in place on the factory roof rack?

Re: Sceptor Military Gas Containers

Gon2srf - when I had those cans I strapped them down very tight across the two lower bars. I moved the bars all the way towards the back, 10" or so apart. They want to slide all over the place, but you can really crank on the strap without worry.

Did a regular pep boys strap for each. It's super secure if you wrap the strap around the can handle at some point.

I only switched to metal because I found I could thrubolt the blitz holders to the same crossbars, and it was even better.

Re: Sceptor Military Gas Containers

Hmm is there a reason why we don't have a mount that sits under the spare that can bolt onto the 3 lug points... then have a receiver style attachment to connect to the adapter so for non-wheeling days only the adapter is on the back?

Re: Sceptor Military Gas Containers

qua77, dude there was a post on this same topic months ago. it had a link and even some pictures. I recall a big discussion about the amount of weight you should have on the rear door and how the hinges would wear over time. I think Kansas Law Dawg had some good comments. I looked but can't fidn the post. Therre is a mount exactly what you have drawn adn I'm pretty sure it's from Bilz but look around the forum or find the Bilz site

Never did get back to you,.thanks for the info the straps work pretty well. I am going to fabricate something that attaches to the crossbars and keeps the cans in place and runs straps over them. Similar to what Goby uses.

Re: Sceptor Military Gas Containers

gon2srf here is a hard to see picture of my current setup using blitz cans and holders. These are thrubolted to the crossbars. I know this is not exactly what you're looking for but what the heck:

I am gonna go out and take a better picture now.

Re: Sceptor Military Gas Containers

I know it is convenient to lay down the cans, but in my experience that is not recommended (the tops ususally not as tight as one would hope). Does gasoline do anything to the paint job?
