Optima Battery Clamps!

I now have in my garage a Yellow topped Optima Dual Purpose (Deep cycle and starting) battery. Since so many of you have requested that I make Optima battery clamps, I figured I'd better get some input as to what you want. For now this is only for:

D34/78
8014-045
D750U
SC34DU 12V 55 AH 750 CCA 870 CA
10 x 6.8 x 7.8"
42.9 lbs
Top Post
+ GM Side

All the info I could muster... besides the pic!

Now this one is a rough render...but the basic idea. My original clamps wouldn't fit this battery, the slot wasn't wide enough and the body a bit too wide to fit between the raised bits that lead to the GM terminals.

One plus is this leaves lots of room for custom engraving and the like. I could add rounded edges. It is pretty plain jane... how do we want to dress it up? We could put notches in it like I did on the other clamps to accomodate the stock fill caps... but I believe it will be strongest while it's beefiest like this. Like the other ones unfortunately, I have to sell them "For show purposes only," because I can't be the one to install them once they are shipped and I really don't want to end up on the street due to a lawsuit from someone who didn't tighten their battery up well.

I would be willing to start a group buy for everyone so I can give the best deal possible. All in one group buy to get good numbers... individual engraving and anodize as requested.

What do you think?

Joel

Re: Optima Battery Clamps!

Here... this is much better... 1/16" corner rounding render.

I should add... I can put notches in this one to make a universal clamp. Then it will fit your stock if you are saving your pennies for an Optima. The Optima is only a few millimeters wider, so even if you put the Optima width clamp on your stock battery, it is still gonna fit better than the stock steel sucker.

Cheers,

Joel

Re: Optima Battery Clamps!

I will probably be picking up two of these from you in the future Joel.

Going to put in a 2nd battery sometime, and also replace the stock one.
Will run two yellow Optimas.

Re: Optima Battery Clamps!

This is great. I wonder if you can put two colors on these clamps. I have a black fj. I think it would be cool to have Black sides and bottom and have a white top.

How much for a group buy? I need two of these things.

If we get some more interest I will definitely start a group buy. I couldn't do a white top but could do black with an aluminum colored top (clear anodize).

Re: Optima Battery Clamps!

First, I love the clamp for the Panasonic battery - top notch work. That said, it really is just a matter of time before that one gives out. I'd like to see a mount to fit the biggest, and baddest deep cycle battery out there whether it it an Optima or a Oddessy or whatever (in the stock position). There is nothing more important that a great battery. Don't care if it costs $300.00+

off topic: I was considering using the Optima 31A to replace the panasonic later down the road but found the Odyssey 2150 will also fit in this location but requiring mods to the cabling. The 2150 would be the baddest agm battery.

Re: Optima Battery Clamps!

Those look great you should definately make it as universal as possible. Then you have to potential to go big time.
