I would not want it on while locked, infact we were wondering if the hack turned off the Arac when the locker was turned on so that you did not have 2 opposing forces working at the same time
this was covered in the first two pages of this thread. If the axle speed is exactly equal from one side to the other (locked) then the Atrac will not activate on any brake on that axle because it assumes they tires have equal traction. The idea is to get it to work on the front which would obviously need some form of traction aid in tandem with the rear locker. atrac front+rear locker > open front+rear locker.
The idea is to get around the accounting/legal dept's neutering of the system to minimize warranty claims from offroad shenanigans. If the $60 switch works, I'm sure falsing a signal to turn on the locker will surely work as well.
BTW, I don't have an FJ, but I'm rooting for you guys. Toyota assumes people are dumb enough to settle for what they sell you. I can say that my Xterra with the rear locked and the ALBS system working on the front is quite superior to just ABLS front and rear.
ok, the thread is kinda long now, can we get a repost on the part number so that we do not look like idiots walking in asking for the Atrac hack switch?

in theory
but remeber, it is my axles we are talking about, not your unowning a FJ axles
what are you kidding? you think the system will activate from a slight difference in tire pressure or 2 degrees of axle torsion from one side or the other? it's only brake pulses anyhow. If the software can be tricked into turning on, it will never do anything in the rear axle while locked.
#84988-35060. I won't be able to post pics until this weekend. If you need to see more posts on this and the test performed, check out www.ih8mud.com and look for the A-Trac thread in the FJ Cruiser section.
If anyone wants details, send me a PM.i would just walk in and ask for a replacement a-trac switch,07 fj cruiser.
ick.
i believe this is the part# highbeams.i would just walk in and ask for a replacement a-trac switch,07 fj cruiser.
another way to look at it is to count the number of teeth on the ABS tone ring on the rear diff or the front CV axle hub outers. the system will not have enough resolution, degree wise, to set off at tiny rolling diameter differences.
Mike, I think that if you are on a loose shale surface, and both locked rear tires are spinning the unit can see it as a offtraction situation and apply braking to the rear wheels
now I have engine torque going to the axles and braking being applied to the hubs
If you know anything at all about wheeling, you will reaslise this is not a good sitch to be in and a long walk can be ahead of you.
with locker on, I want assurence the Atrac is off
let me explain it in another way
torque is relitive to load applied
and with a open dif, if one side is loaded the torque is transffered to the other side keeping the torque off the loaded side.or to put it better, no torque is developed as the engine sees no load
now if the axle is locked and load is introduced suddently to either side then the torque is asorbed by the inner shaft, SNAP
breaking by the Atrac is load
I still would like the locker of course, but I also like the stock alumiunum wheels, and the lether steering wheel, and the metalic shift lever and bezel, and the multi display, and the power outlet....I could do without the stereo and get an aftermarket, which I'll probably do anyway, but the wheels/tires and locker would come real close to $1600-$1800. So I guess I'll just go with UP and get all the other stuff that comes with it for an extra $800. Maybe I can even sell the FJammer stereo for a few bucks.
