I'm sure your comment was tongue in cheek - but Toyota had to anticipate hacks along with the mods. If folks want the UP or UR options, ATRAC is included. Using the MT price of $2150 (the price difference for AT is because it also includes the rear locker), so much is taken up by wheels, radio/speaker upgrade, steering wheel controls, three amigos (dash gauges), 400W inverter, and colored door panels - $60 is about all that is left over for ATRAC. I don't think Toyota will begrudge anyone buying the Toyota switch and installing it themselves. In fact, I'll bet Toyota is thrilled that buyers have recognized ATRAC is a desirable function. IMO. I plan on installing the ATRAC switch on my future 4x4 AT, with CQ and DL options only, without the least hesitation.

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

so they spend tens of thousands of dollars, rewriting software, and then tens of thousands of dollars to test the new software, then they tell dealers they need to monitor each FJ sold and when they come in to do extra steps that cost the dealership moneyor reimburse them hundreds of dollars for each unit done.(believe me each dealer will charge for doing this) so that they can stop several hundred people from doing something.
probly costing them a few hundred thousand dollars
More than likely they will figure that a very small percentage of owners will do the hack and just live with it.
After all, of the 7 FJ Cruiser forums I have seen so far
and of the 12 TOyota or 4x4 websites I have seen with FJ discussions I have found, this is the only one with a thread this long about the hack, and it seems the NAySAyers are the most vocal. But then it is to be expected, society is a negative enviroment, dealing with more of the bad than the good. Look at the news, 20 bad stories about Iraq in todays evening news, nothing about the sitting president of Iraq having spoken to 7 insurgent groups that are negotiating laying down arms. See, everyone wants bad news, and in this case, everyone to scared to try it are trying to convince those who are willing not to. Kinda the, well I am to scared to try it I will convince you to be also so you cannot have something I can't have.

#84988-35060. I won't be able to post pics until this weekend. If you need to see more posts on this and the test performed, check out www.ih8mud.com and look for the A-Trac thread in the FJ Cruiser section. ick.
I have a question about the part number. The downloaded Electrical Manual shows a different part number for the ATRAC switch.

1. Page 42 shows the Electrical Wiring Routing for the ATRAC and labels it E15.
2. Page 188 shows the System Circuitry for E15 Traction Control Switch (Active TRAC).
3. Page 287 shows the Part Number for E15 as 90980-11013.
4. Page 320 shows the Wiring Diagram for E15 Traction Control Switch (Active TRAC).

Reviewing all the parts in the Electrical Manual is Section L - Part Number of Connectors there is no part listed by the number in Ickmann's post.

Hence, my question is - what part number should be ordered?

That part number is for the bare connector on the wire harness side.

This is what you want:

Order the part # that I posted ( 84988-35060 ) The part # that is listed on page 287 of the wiring manual for E15 comes up on the dealer parts program screen as an "electrical connector", cost - $3.50. The top of page 287 is also entitled " part number of electrical connectors". Still, while E15 is listed as "Traction Control SW ( Active TRAC ), I think it refers to the actual plug for the switch. Could be an error with the manual OR ( here comes the conspiracy theory again ) Toyota purposely left out the switch part # so that the "un-informed" of us would not be able to buy the factory switch and be able to activate the A-Trac function.

The part # that I posted does work. I queried my local dealership parts dept. and they said it came up as A-Trac switch, $60.00. Received it in two weeks.

My part # info came directly from Alex, who I now believe knows what he is talking about when it comes to the mods, but then again I will let you guys and gals judge that for yourselves.

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

Thanks for the explanation. I guess that means that using the Electrical Manual for any other parts we might want needs to be verified before offering.

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

Just finished reading the entire damned post....now I'm tired and have a headache
I will however be going to my local dealership tomorrow to place an order for the switch.
I ordered a base model with locker, etc. (see signature), and really wanted the A-Trac, but was unwilling to spend the money for all of the other items I did not want.
Now with this, I will have all I wanted from the get-go, with out all of the extra expense
Thank you to all who had a positive approach to this!

Now they just need to ship my darn FJ!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

Well I just got back from ordering my A-TRAC switch at the local dealer. It will be here Friday
No question, no hassle, no problems
Just went in, said I need to order one of these (handed her the paper with the part number), and $64.44 later. I had a receipt for the switch.
This is GREAT!!
Now I just need my FJ to arrive

There's a real good chance that I'll have my Atrac switch before I get my MT6, supposedly due to arrive 5/12>25.
