Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

Where is the darn $%*&%$^%!^# Tylenol and my box of tissues????
Man I could feel the love in this thread so much I know have a splitting headache...
Anyhoooo... I just ordered my switch from TRD yesterday, a year after this whole thing started. Interestingly enough, I have my FJ since November 2006 so I am very anxious to see if the A-track and locker will work together without me doing further mods, otherwise, I am for it in a heart beat since my wheeling gets me places where getting stuck is part of the fun.
But after all this reading, still no real test with result on the a-track/locker mod, or I totally miss a post here and there. Anyone can confirm on this?
As far as "cheat" "steal" "warrantie" and all the crap... if you are serious about 4wheeling and actually do it, there are no such thing. Mods a part of the game.
And one more word, this forum is to share information, and good imformation needs to come from both sides (good-bad) so we can make our own educated choices, so thanks to all for participate.

Absolutly works great.. It will not , however, allow your veihcle to walk on water or gaurantee safe passage to the promise land

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

OK so I did the hack, but it only works when I hold in the switch??
Am I doing something wrong, should I just go get a toggle switch?
Thanks

Did you buy factory switch 84988-35060? If you did, then check to make sure the plug is inserted all the way and secure.

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

Well, I got it done in 2 minutes. I was able to just pull the blank switch cover. The connector was attached to it in the back, put in the switch and voila! Works great.
Proce have gone up a bit though. $60 at TDR with shipping and all, versus $75 at the dealership
Thanks to all for the info.

I tried it with a momentary switch and it only worked when I pushed it in, so I added a toggle switch and now it works, but only when the switch is turned on.

Stolen from another thread....sorry Alex is long gone....maybe find him on Pirate or ttora....

Remove the foot rest and kick-panel on drivers side. Locate blue box (diff lok control module) Remove single bolt holding it in place and unplug harness. Fish harness around other harnesses so you have some wire to work with. Locate the white wire with a blue stripe(don't get confused, there is also a blue wire with a white stripe, don't touch this one) Cut the white wire with a blue stripe leaving enough wire to re-connect later should you want to. Tape up the end that goes into the harness. Add a small length of wire to the plug side with an eye at the end. This will go under module attaching bolt on re-assembly. Locate purple wire with a red stripe. Cut and tape both ends, this is the speed control wire. Re-assemble with white with a blue stripe wire grounded out under mounting bolt. That's it. To use, just press the rear diff lok button and have fun. It's pretty cool seeing two rooster tails behind you as you floor it through a muddy field in two wheel hi (with the farmers permission of course). Donuts are a blast too.
