Great, can't wait for YOU to try it.

The post noted that the mechanical/electronic portion of the vehicle which is "modified" by your application of the switch, is an ABS/TRAC actuator. Price me one of those! (by the way, per your quote: you just voided your warranty on that little nugg).

The ABS/TRAC actuator is also where the vehicle operating parameters are monitored and recorded. RECORDED........kinda scares me. Read your owners manual section about the "event data recorder"

Now as I see it this could potentially be costly in the event of failure of said ABS/TRAC actuator, and the cost of repair (out of pocket, cause warranty won't cover it, because of your mod) may exceed the cost of the upgrade package itself.

Carry On, and good luck....I can't wait to see how this turns out!
I had two ABS modules go bad on my Disco (when it was still under warrantee thank god). He said they were about $2K. Hope this works out for people. I would feel like a heal if I paid all that cash for a switch.

Booo, you are the boogieman aren't you? I fail to see how I have voided any part of my warranty by thinking about a modification, unless there is a thought subclause I missed.

Really

So basically I will have to befriend the local Toyota Service Tech. to have access to an I.T. w/toyota codes ?
You could bring your FJ to a Toyota place and tell them the "Check Engine" light comes on periodically. Then they could tell you what is wrong with it, if anything.

Nah, too risky...certain other members of this BB might be hiding in the bushes and will pop out and tell on me for hacking into the A-Trac system. They will probably be waving the warranty book and screaming.." He stole the A-Trac!!! Check the data recorder !!! Check the data recorder!!! He must be a witch, burn him, burn him!! "

( Ahhhh... I could not resist )

Hi guys,

Like I said "I'm in"......If you want to try it go for it.

Remember it's a little more sophisticated that OBD1 and a MIL (malfunction indicator light) on the 1984 models.

I wouldn't rat ya out, but I will laugh at ya!

Let us know how it works for ya!

Love Ya, Mean it!

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

The really funny thing is that even if one were to somehow screw up this all knowing ABS ecm all you would be left with is...........regular brakes. How else would the car function if this part were to fail on it's own. In fact it might be useful to install a cutoff to this ecm so that you could switch off the ABS while offroad at will. Let's face it, even a smart ABS system with sand on slickrock next to a cliff=life insurance claim. I've seen Land Rover systems franticly turning on and off as the vehicle keeps sliding and accelerating towards disaster. Luckily the two times I've seen this the driver was smart enough to use the ebrake to good effect before disaster. Hmmmmm, I wonder how the all knowing ECM will react to having it's front sensors disconnected with an solid front axle swap, maybe regular braking again. Indeed, as soon as we install a 4:1 transfer case conversion or better diff gearing (randy's ring and pinion by the way) it'll probably call Mr. Toyoda on his cell and rat us out.
Regardless of warranty issues the Toyota guys are betting that the hard core crowd will accept these vehicles and modify them to make them work at least as well as a Jeep. This lends credibility to the entire line and allows certain other sales dbags on this board to sell many more vehicles to image concious non-adventerous pavement princesses. This makes some of the sarcasm dripping, local dealership fear mongering in this thread pretty hypocritical.

Really, Mean it

Enjoy yourselves!

It already works as well as a JEEP.

I would love to have a switch to turn off the ABS, I haven't had that since our 1992 Audi.

I have a few more posts than the average other sales dbags, I promise most are worthless for the hard core crowd.

I like image concious non-adventurous pavement princesses.........they taste like chicken
